The fragrance of the Lok Sabha elections to be held next year is gradually increasing. All the political parties started their preparations. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is on Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. At the same time, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is also ready to reshuffle on a large scale from the organization to the government. Meanwhile, senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has confirmed that in 2024 only BJP government is going to be formed. In fact, he claimed on Friday that it would be impossible for the BJP to repeat its 2019 performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said that BJP may lose 50 seats.
If Shashi Tharoor’s claims turn into results, BJP alone will get more than 250 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It will not be a difficult task for him to form a government with NDA allies. Let us tell you that in 2019 only BJP got 303 seats. A party needs only 272 seats to form the government at the Centre.
The MP from Thiruvananthapuram was addressing the Kerala Literature Festival. He said that he accepts the dominance of the BJP, but it is also a fact that many states have lost their government. Losing power at the center is also not an impossible thing.
He said, “BJP had performed well in 2019. He had performed brilliantly in Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra. West Bengal also got 18 seats. Now it is impossible to replicate all those results. There is every possibility of being below majority in 2024.”
Referring to the Pulwama and Balakot attacks, Shashi Tharoor said that there was a tremendous wave in favor of the government in the last minute. It is not possible to repeat it in 2024. Opposition parties may get a chance.
“If BJP stops at 250 seats, others will have 290 seats. We don’t know if the parties will come to an agreement to get 290 seats except BJP,” he said. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 303 out of 543 seats, while the Congress could win only 52.
