The Supreme Court Collegium has once again supported the appointment of gay advocate Saurabh Kirpal as a judge in the Delhi High Court. The collegium has again sent the recommendation for the appointment of Saurabh Kirpal to the government. Earlier last year, the Central Government had sent back this recommendation of the collegium for reconsideration. Let us tell you that Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has openly criticized the collegium system of the Supreme Court many times in the recent past.

In the midst of the ongoing ‘dispute’ between the Supreme Court versus the Central Government, Chief Justice D.Y. The collegium headed by Chandrachud reiterated its recommendation dated November 11, 2021, to appoint senior advocate Saurabh Kripal as a judge of the Delhi High Court. The collegium noted that the proposal for appointment of Saurabh Kripal as a High Court judge has been pending for more than five years, which needs to be decided expeditiously.

“In this backdrop, the Collegium reiterates its recommendation dated November 11, 2021, for the appointment of Saurabh Kripal as Judge of the Delhi High Court, which may be decided expeditiously,” said a statement released on the Supreme Court website. It said, “The unanimous recommendation made by the Collegium of the Delhi High Court on October 13, 2017 and approved by the Supreme Court Collegium on November 11, 2021, has been fixed for reconsideration on November 25, 2021.” 2022 was sent back to us.
