The Gujarat Congress on Friday said it has suspended 38 office-bearers for six years for indulging in anti-party activities during the assembly elections held in December. Party convenor Balubhai Patel told reporters that the Gujarat Congress’s disciplinary committee met twice this month. The party has so far received 71 complaints against 95 people.

Surendranagar district president Raibhai Rathod, Narmada district president Harendra Valand and former Nandod MLA PD Vasava are among the 38 people who have been suspended from the party for six years. It may be known that in the assembly elections held in the state, the Congress had won only 17 seats. The BJP, on the other hand, retained power by winning a record 156 seats in the 182-member house.

It is noteworthy that on Tuesday, the process of brainstorming was started regarding the defeat in the last assembly elections. For this, a three-member committee held talks with the party leaders of Saurashtra. The committee includes Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Nitin Raut and Saptagiri Sankar Ulka. This committee was formed on January 4. The party has asked this committee to submit its report within two weeks. The leaders of the committee say that they are getting serious information from the party leaders. This committee has to explain the reasons for the party’s defeat. Along with this, suggestions have also to be given to strengthen the organization in the state.

It is worth mentioning that recently Congress appointed Amit Chavda as the leader of its legislature party in Gujarat and Shailesh Parmar as its deputy leader. A letter sent by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal to Gujarat unit chief Jagdish Thakor said the party president has approved the nomination of Chavda as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the state and Parmar as its deputy leader. The proposal sent for has been approved. It may be noted that the Gujarat Assembly Secretariat had recently asked the opposition Congress to appoint its leader in the House before January 19.
