MCD Mayor Election: The election of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) mayor and deputy mayor will now be held on January 30. According to the news received from the sources of LG office, information about this will be shared soon. The MCD has sent the report of the matter to the LG office. The House was adjourned following a dispute in the first meeting of the MCD held on January 6. The House was adjourned following a scuffle between councilors of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the MCD House. The BJP councilors had also accused the AAP councilors of assaulting them.
There was a dispute during the oath taking of councilors
Election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of MCD was to be held in the first meeting of Municipal Corporation of Delhi on 6th January. Councilors were being administered oath before the elections. During the swearing-in, the Aam Aadmi Party objected to first administering the oath to the nominated councilors, after which there was a dispute. The dispute between BJP and AAP councilors had increased so much that it had come to the point of fighting. After which the first meeting of MCD was postponed. Today MCD has sent the report to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. It is expected that the election of MCD mayor and deputy mayor will be held on January 30.
BJP had accused of attacking with blade
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Parvesh Verma had also accused the AAP councilors of assaulting them after the January brawl. He had told that the woman corporator of BJP was surrounded and attacked by five corporators of ‘AAP’. The BJP MP had also alleged that the AAP councilors had come prepared. He was also accused of stabbing with a blade.

The MCD Mayor election was postponed after the uproar in the House. Arvind Kejriwal, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, accused the BJP of violating the constitution on this matter. He had said that, “The Constitution prevents voting for nominated members of the House, trying to get them to vote is unconstitutional”.
