The new committee of selectors of the Indian cricket team has named the three-match ODI series against New Zealand and the same T20I series as well as the first two Test matches of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia starting in February. The team has been announced for Many players are out, while some different faces have been seen in the team.
Coming to the ODI team first, KS Bharath has been selected as the wicket-keeper for the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand starting January 18, as KL Rahul is not available due to family commitments. Shahbaz Ahmed has been selected in place of Akshar Patel. They are also not available due to family reasons. Shardul Thakur has also come in the team.
Sanju Samson’s name is not in the team that has been selected for the T20 series. He got hurt during the Mumbai T20I match. Maybe that’s why he is not a part of the team. Jitesh Sharma has been selected in his place, while Prithvi Shaw has returned to the T20 squad. Hardik Pandya is again the captain of the team and the vice-captaincy has been handed over to Suryakumar Yadav.
If we look at the team selected for the first two matches of the Test series, then Suryakumar Yadav and Ishaan Kishan have been selected. Ishan Kishan has probably been selected as the backup wicketkeeper. KS Bharat will get a chance as Rishabh Pant is not available. The surprising thing is that Jasprit Bumrah is not a part of any of these teams. They are still not fit. Ravindra Jadeja is in the Test team, but he also has to undergo a fitness test. KL Rahul has been made the vice-captain of this Test team again.
