Slowest Train in India: Everyday lakhs of passengers travel from one place to another with the help of Indian Railways. Railways also makes all efforts to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the passengers. High speed trains are also being operated at a fast pace. But do you know that there is such a train in the country, whose speed is so low that it travels only 46 kilometers in five hours. A train in Tamil Nadu is attracting people’s attention.
The Mettupalayam Ooty Nilgiri Passenger train is the slowest train in India, running at a speed of 10 kmph. It is almost 16 times slower than the fastest train in India. The train covers the distance of 46 km in approximately five hours, which is due to the train running in hilly terrain. According to NDTV, the train as an extension of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway has been declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations’ UNESCO.
On the other hand, according to the UNESCO website, the construction of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway was first proposed in 1854, but due to the difficulty of the mountainous location, work began in 1891 and was completed in 1908. UNESCO also said that this train reaches a height of 326 meters to 2,203 meters, which was possible due to the latest technology of that time.
The coaches of the Mettupalayam Ooty Nilgiri Passenger train are made of blue and cream colored wood with oversize windows to enjoy the scenic beauty of the Nilgiri Hills. The train has both first class and general coaches. This train leaves Mettupalayam station at 7:10 am and reaches Ooty at around 12 noon.
