Varun Gandhi can be fruitful for Congress: These days speculations are being made in the politics of North India that whether BJP MP Varun Gandhi will leave the saffron party and join his father and grandmother’s party i.e. Congress, which is the political legacy of the Gandhi-Nehru dynasty? It is too early to reach any decision on this speculation because if this happens, before that political profit and loss will be assessed by both the parties.
Political experts believe that Varun Gandhi, who has been speaking openly against the policies of the BJP and the central government for the past few years and in the recent months, joining the Congress can bring a significant change in the politics of Uttar Pradesh.
UP has been a bastion of Congress:
Uttar Pradesh was once a stronghold of the Congress. The Gandhi family has also been representing the Rae Bareilly and Amethi parliamentary constituencies in the Parliament, but the 2019 elections changed the picture. Rahul Gandhi lost the election from his ancestral Amethi seat. However, Sonia Gandhi managed to register an election victory from the Rae Bareli seat. She is currently the only Lok Sabha MP of Congress from UP. The position of the Congress in the UP Assembly is also precarious. The party has only two MLAs in the assembly.
Maneka took a different path 4 decades ago:
On the other hand, Varun Gandhi’s mother Maneka Gandhi, who came out of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s house overnight four decades ago, has been waving her flag in politics but since 2019 she has been sidelined in BJP. His son Varun Gandhi also seems to be upset with the BJP. However, to dispel these speculations, Maneka Gandhi has recently met UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath along with several MLAs.
In such a situation, the question is bound to be that why would the Congress take Varun Gandhi with it? Rahul Gandhi also did not give any clear indication on this by saying that he has a different ideology. By the way, Congress sources say that Priyanka Gandhi also wants Varun to come with her. Ideology changes overnight.
Strike Rate of Varun Gandhi:
If we look at the statistics of Varun Gandhi’s election strike and political defeat and victory, then he can prove to be a trump card for the Congress. Varun Gandhi, who first won the Lok Sabha election from Pilibhit in 2009, won the 2019 elections from there with a record margin of votes. Varun got a total of 7 lakh 04 thousand, 549 votes while his rival Hemraj Verma of SP got 4 lakh 48 thousand, 922 votes. Congress could not do anything special here.
Excellent performance in the first election itself:
In 2009 also Varun Gandhi had registered a big victory in Pilibhit. The BJP had fielded Varun from there for the first time. Varun then got a total of 4 lakh, 19 thousand 539 votes from there, while Congress’s VM Singh got only 1 lakh 38 thousand thirty eight votes. Varun had already been active in this parliamentary seat in 1998 and 1999 elections before the 2009 elections and used to campaign for his mother.
Sultan of Sultanpur became:
In 2014, BJP changed the strategy and changed the parliamentary seats of Maneka Gandhi and Varun Gandhi. Under this Maneka Gandhi was again sent to Pilibhit and Varun Gandhi to Sultanpur. Varun Gandhi not only ended BJP’s 16 years of exile on this seat but also registered a thumping victory for BJP by securing 4 lakh 10 thousand 348 votes (42.52%). Varun had opened BJP’s account on this seat after 1998. Amita Singh of Congress could get only 41,983 votes.
How beneficial for Congress:
It is clear from the electoral journey of 43-year-old Varun Gandhi and the number of votes polled by him that he has been the hero of his parliamentary seat. His popularity in the parliamentary constituency is so dominant that his name freezes on the lips of the youth as Bhaiyaji. In such a situation, if Varun Gandhi joins the Congress, he can not only win his own parliamentary seat, but can also prove to be helpful in making the Congress win the nearby parliamentary seats.
Game can be held on 2 Lok Sabha, 10 assembly seats:
Apart from these, Varun Gandhi can also become a savior for Congress in total 10 assembly constituencies under Pilibhit and Sultanpur parliamentary seats. Presently, out of these ten assembly seats, eight are won by BJP and two by SP MLAs. Apart from these, this message will also go to the politics of UP that the conditions of the 1980s have returned for the Congress, when Sanjay Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi used to be together and used to walk step by step with mother Indira Gandhi.
Today, the Congress party may have disbanded, but in the 1980s, the biggest state in UP was ruled by the Congress. That is, Congress can get a flamboyant and enthusiastic young leader, who can give a befitting reply to BJP on many fronts. In such a situation, it is possible that the three stars of the Gandhi family (Rahul, Priyanka and Varun) may create a new map on the political map.
